Within this framework, the lymphatic system plays an important role in several key areas of massage therapy education and clinical practice, including:
• inflammation and tissue healing • immune and systemic fluid balance • edema and swelling • post-surgical recovery • chronic pain and systemic congestion While students learn the structure and function of the lymphatic system, many therapists graduate wanting greater clarity on how to apply this knowledge clinically through hands-on treatment approaches. |
|
ASSESSMENT AND CLINICAL REASONING
Understanding patterns of swelling, congestion, and inflammatory presentation can help therapists better interpret findings during assessment. TREATMENT PLANNING Lymphatic techniques provide an additional approach when working with presentations such as post-injury inflammation, post-surgical recovery, and chronic fluid congestion. SAFE AND APPROPRIATE APPLICATION OF TREATMENT Therapists learn when lymphatic approaches may be beneficial and when referral or caution is required. PATIENT EDUCATION AND SELF-CARE Patients often benefit from understanding lifestyle and self-care strategies that support healthy lymphatic function. |
