FOundations COURSE OUTLINE
for EluVett Method of Lymphatic Drainage and Health

Target Audience: Massage Therapists and Manual Therapists
Duration: 2 Days

COURSE GOAL: To provide massage and manual therapists with the knowledge and hands-on skills to effectively perform lymphatic drainage using the EluVett Method. The course will focus on techniques that integrate manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), reflex stimulation, acupressure, passive mobility, and breathing exercises to optimize lymphatic health. The course will focus on supporting lymphatic system health, enhancing fluid circulation, and addressing congestion through a full-body treatment to promote overall health and wellness.

PREREQUISITES: This prerequisite ensures that participants are prepared to fully engage in the course content and derive maximum benefit from the hands-on nature of the EluVett Method.
  • Massage or Manual Therapy Certification: Participants should have a recognized certification in massage therapy or manual therapy.
  • Basic Understanding of Human Anatomy: A foundational understanding of human anatomy and physiology is recommended.
  • Experience in Basic Manual Therapy: While previous experience in lymphatic drainage is not required, familiarity with manual techniques such as Swedish or deep tissue massage will be beneficial for grasping more advanced lymphatic drainage techniques.
  • Willingness to Engage in Hands-On Learning: As this course involves practical application of techniques, students should be comfortable with hands-on practice and reciprocal treatments with fellow participants. Students will work with a partner to perform and receive treatment.

DAY 1: Foundations of the eluvett method (evm)

MORNING SESSION:  Lymphatic System Anatomy and Physiology
  • Overview of lymphatic system structures: Lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, and tonsils.
  • Importance of the lymphatic system in immunity, detoxification, and fluid regulation.
  • Key lymphatic drainage points and diaphragms: Role of lymph nodes and flow dynamics.
  • How deep breathing, calf engagement, and joint mobility impact lymphatic circulation.
Understanding Edema & the Lymphatic System
  • Common lymphatic issues: lymphedema, swelling, and inflammation.
  • Assessments of stages and grades of edema.
  • Indications and contraindications for lymphatic drainage.
Patient Intake & Assessments
  • Observational assessment: Identifying signs like skin lines, swelling, complexion, and visible health indicators.
  • Patient education: Setting realistic expectations about MLD and it’s purpose; clarifying that the treatment is not intended for contouring, fat loss, or cellulite reduction.
Breathwork, Calf Engagement and Joint Mobility to Support the Lymphatic System
  • How proper breathing can activate the lymphatic system.
  • Techniques: Diaphragmatic breathing, ribcage expansion, and deep abdominal breathing.
  • Integrating breathing with lymphatic drainage to enhance detoxification.
  • Calf Engagement: the role of the calf in supporting lymphatic movement
  • Joint Mobility: how movement and pumping the joints affects and supports lymphatic circulation.
  • Practical Demonstration: Guide the patient through breathing exercise to begin treatment.
  • Hands-on Practice: Guide a partner through breathing exercises pre and post lymphatic drainage.

MORNING BREAK

Lymphatic Diaphragms & Opening Channels for Lymphatic Flow
  • Techniques for pumping and engaging the lymphatic diaphragms.
  • Accessing key areas: the ‘Deep Six’ PLUS the ‘EluVett Seven’
  • Proper draping, body mechanics, and therapist posture for optimal technique.
  • Practical Demonstration: Engaging lymphatic diaphragms.
  • Hands-on Practice: Perform lymphatic diaphragm engagement with a partner.
Draping, Propping, and Therapist Body Mechanics & Ergonomics
  • Draping techniques in supine for full body EVM treatment (arms, legs, abdomen)
  • Bolsters, pillows and props
  • Therapist body mechanics and ergonomics, standing and using stool
  • Practical Demonstration: Draping, propping and ergonomics.
  • Hands-on Practice: Perform draping, propping and using body ergonomics with a partner.
EluVett Methodology Overview
  • Introduction to the EluVett Method: A gentle combination of MLD, acupressure, reflex stimulation, passive mobility, and breathing techniques.
  • How combining acupressure, reflex stimulation and passive movements encourage and support lymphatic circulation and movement.
  • Key principles of the EluVett Method
Lymphatic Drainage Techniques
  • Introduction to lymphatic drainage techniques to target key areas, direct lymphatic flow and facilitate fluid movement.
  • Practical Demonstration: lymphatic drainage techniques
  • Hands-on Practice: Perform lymphatic drainage techniques on self and with a partner.

LUNCH BREAK

AFTERNOON SESSION:  Mobility Techniques to promote Lymphatic Movement
  • Role of joint mobility in stimulating the lymphatic system.
  • Techniques: leg pumping, leg rolling, hip scouring, angel twist, and arm shake, wrist & ankle ROM, neck figure-8.
  • Integrating mobility movements into lymphatic drainage.
  • Practical Demonstration: Seven Mobility Techniques.
  • Hands-on Practice: Guide a partner through passive mobility movements.
Acupressure for Lymphatic Support
  • Upper Body: acupressure points for lymphatic stimulation (e.g., lymphatic, kidney, spleen reflexes).
  • Lower Body: acupressure points for promoting lymphatic flow (e.g., digestive, respiratory reflexes).
  • Practical Demonstration:  Locate and palpate acupressure points for lymphatic support.
  • Hands-on Practice: Palpating acupressure points in pairs.
Reflex Stimulation for Lymphatic Support
  • Foot Reflexes: Key zones for lymphatic support.
  • Hand Reflexes: Reflex points related to lymphatic flow and detoxification.
  • Ear Reflexes: Points for immunity and detox support.
  • Practical Demonstration: Locating and palpating reflex zones.
  • Hands-on Practice: Reflexology on hands, feet, and ears with a partner.

AFTERNOON BREAK
